Edmund M Ilsley

September 21, 1940 ~ September 4, 2019 (age 78)

Ed, age 78, passed away on September 4, 2019, following a period of declining health.

Born on September 21, 1940 in Hanover NH, son of Maynard and Helen Traynor Ilsley.

He attended Rice’s Mills School and Thetford Academy.

Ed married Michelle Langlois of Hanover NH in 1963.  They had one son, Troy Jay Ilsley.  Troy’s wife Cindy was a loving and caring daughter-in-law to Ed.  His second son, Cale Ryan Ilsley (wife Heather) was with Margo Waddell of Sunapee NH.  She had a daughter, Christie Waddell Hutchinson, who Ed loved as his own.  His family included five grandchildren, Chelsie Hutchinson Drabek, Austin Hutchinson, Shea, Hunter and Benjamin Ilsley.  He always remembered each of them on their special day, sending a card with a gift enclosed.  Ed had a special bond with his nephew Brett Ilsley, who joined him in his many endeavors.  He also had a lifelong friendship with Patricia Wettemann.

He was an excellent carpenter, and also worked for many years drilling wells for his cousin Bill Bailey.

Ed leaves behind his children, grandchildren, sister Pat Hill, brothers Lee (Dawn), Barry (Martha) and Keith (Merla), nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents.

As a young boy Ed had a curiosity of what make things tick.  Over the years this led to his interest in car and truck repair, especially Chevrolets.  If anyone wanted a part for their car or truck, Ed was the man to see, knowing just where it was immediately. He was also an inventor of sorts, never ceasing to amaze folks. Ed learned baking skills from his mom, and continued her tradition of baking her delicious recipes of bread and pies to share with family and friends.  He always enjoyed family get-togethers with conversations and laughter.

He was a keeper of items, often collecting “treasures” from friends, decorating his home and yard.  He formed many lasting friendships through his interests and skills.  He always enjoyed visiting with them and sharing a good joke.

Ed will be missed by all that had the good fortune of knowing him.

Calling hours will be at Hale’s Funeral Home in Bradford VT on September 18th from 6-8pm.

A celebration of his life will be held at Thetford Center Community Building on September 28th from 2-4pm.
