Eleanor S. Butler, 80 of Willey Hill Road in Topsham, VT passed away at home on Monday November 5, 2018.
Born on July 23, 1938, she was the daughter of Harley Eugene and Angie May (Gilman) Smith. Eleanor graduated Bradford Academy in 1956.
On June 24, 1961 Eleanor married Wayland (PeeWee) Butler. They lived most of their lives in Topsham, where Eleanor had grown up, and where they raised four children and grandchildren.
Eleanor worked for National Life, Vermont Department of Taxes and finally Vermont DMV in which she retired after many years of service.
Eleanor enjoyed snowmobiling, sewing, knitting, gardens, quilting and dancing. Eleanor loved her Pomeranian Tyke very much. Eleanor liked to be needed, she was always on call and headed out whenever her grandchildren needed something. Eleanor was a member of the Topsham Historical Society and the United Methodist Church in Waits River.
She was preceded by her parents and her beloved husband PeeWee whom she loved and missed very much, along with her grandson Christopher Dexter.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Steven Butler and wife Christine, three daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Williams and husband Wesley, Donna Welch and husband Jeffery, Annette Hood and husband Harold, all of Topsham, VT her sister Virginia (Ginny) Bailey and husband Marvin of Barnet, VT and her brother Allen Smith of Topsham along with many grandchildren , great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am Friday, November 9, at the Waits River New Hope United Methodist Church, Rte 25, Waits River. Rev Candace Ricker will officiate. Burial will follow at East Orange Cemetery followed by a “pot luck” lunch back at the church. Everyone is invited to bring a dish.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, November 8 at Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford, VT.
