Bradford, VT-Lila E. O’Donnell, 82, of Taplin Hill Road died peacefully at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a brief illness on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
She was born May 12, 1937 in Bradford, VT the daughter of Ernest and Nina (Shumway) Covey. She grew up in Vermont and attended Bradford Academy.
On June 4, 1955 she married the love of her life, Leo O’Donnell Sr., and together they raised six children.
Lila made her career in housekeeping working at Lake Morey Inn, Hanover Inn, Dartmouth College, and Brookside Nursing Home in Bradford where she retired from in 2000. After retirement, she enjoyed sewing, making quilts, baking, and making donuts, jams and jellies with her husband Leo and her sister Shirley Bruleigh. Lila enjoyed donating her quilts to various benefits. But most of all Lila enjoyed watching her grandson Derrick race, craft days with her girls, family get togethers, and preparing big meals for them including her famous Reese Pie.
Survivors include her husband, Leo O’Donnell Sr., her children, Rebecca Brocar and husband, Mark of Bradford, VT, daughter-in-law, Peggy O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH, Sylvia Sweet and husband, Robert of Bradford, VT, Cris O’Donnell and wife, Cheryl of Bradford, VT, Lisa Spencer and Jim of Orange, VT, and Karen O’Donnell of Lebanon, NH, grandchildren, Michael Paige, Cassandra Lemieux, Kelley O’Donnell, Melinda Boutin, John Sweet, Ashley Osgood, Derrick O’Donnell and Chelsie Spencer, several great-grandchildren, siblings, Richard Covey, Burton Covey, and Karel Hill, one aunt, Brandi (Omie) Chalifoux, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, one son, Leo “Skip” O’Donnell Jr., sisters, Sandy Williams, Linda Chaffee, Shirley Bruleigh, Audrey Wadkins, brothers, Donald Covey, Merle Covey, Ernest Covey, and Lyle Covey, and her beloved dog “Junior.”
Per Lila’s wishes there are no calling hours or service. A graveside ceremony will be held in the East Corinth New Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by Hale Funeral Home in Bradford, VT.
