Norma A (Kohler) Bliem passed away Friday, October 26th, at Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH surrounded by family. She was 96.
Born on September 10th, 1922 in Bethlehem, PA, she was the daughter of Alfred J. Kohler and Ada Rausch Kohler.
She married Howard S Bliem of Pottstown PA on August 14th, 1944. Over the years they resided together in Gilbertsville, Pottstown, and Penryn PA, Lakeland FL, E. Swanzey, NH before settling for many years in Stratham, NH. After Howard passed away, Norma lived with her daughter in Haverhill, NH, Post Mills, VT, and then Newbury, VT.
She wrote several newspaper columns over the years. She engaged in a diversity of employment - which included owning and operating a bakery, working in a department store, taking care of children in an orphanage, and she was very proud of working in an airplane engine factory during the war. For many years Norma was known as the “sewing lady”, operating her clothing alteration business.
Norma always enjoyed writing poetry, from high school through her later life. She also enjoyed attending church, camping, gardening, scrapbooking, visiting or helping people in need, and participated in many volunteer efforts. She played both the piano and harmonica.
Along with her husband, Norma was predeceased by 8 siblings, brother Clarence Kohler, sister Marie Hildenbrand, brother William Kohler, brother Leo Kohler, sister Arlene Lerner, brother Raymond Kohler, brother Royal Kohler, and sister Betty Houck, all of Pennsylvania.
She is survived by two sons, Barry Bliem and wife Terri of Dover, DE, Dennis Bliem of Peterborough, NH, daughter, Dianne Norton of Newbury, VT, grandchildren Ami Norton and wife Carol Stoll of Newbury, VT, Ivy Skribblez and companion Shelly Perrin of Piermont, NH, Brian Bliem and wife Tina of Visalia, CA, Alex Bliem & wife Tina of Manassas, VA, Edward Bliem of Dover, DE, Kelley Bliem of Dover, DE, great grandson, Joseph Bliem of Manassas, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A private burial service will be held in Stratham, NH.
