Richard A. Hassam, 79, beloved husband of Nancy L. Bilger-Hassam, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 30,2018 at his home.
Born on May 17, 1939 in Rutland, VT, he was a son of the late Baxter and Ruth Hassam.
Richard served proudly in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
He was employed at Tilcon-Tomasso in CT until his retirement.
In 1992, he married Nancy Bilger and they have resided in Newbury, VT for the past 15 years.
Rich enjoyed restoring Harley Davidson and Triumph motorcycles and also had a joking personality.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his three daughters Christine Hassam of CT, Patricia Michaud of FL, and Rosemarie Ashelman of FL; and a son Bert Farley of FL; his sister Patricia Ferris, of NC, Teresa Perugini and fiancé Dennis Regan and his daughter Beth Regan of CT; his four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Rosemarie Hassam, mother of his children in FL; his special cousins, Sandy of VT and Marilyn of Maine; his sister in law Cynthia J. Bilger of CT; his longtime friends Richard (Dickey)Vissicchio, and Rick (Buzz) Bussard. He was pre-deceased by his uncle Stewart (Stubby) Barrett of VT, and Brother in Law John Ferris of NC.
His family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Doctors and entire staff at both Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital and especially to Cottage Hospital for all their compassionate care and kindness given to Richard.
A service and burial will be held in CT at a later date.
