Richard “Richie” Hall of Rte 5 South passed away Friday evening, June 15, 2018 at his home. He was 90.
He was born March 3, 1928 in Toms River, NJ.
In 1976, he moved to Fairlee with his wife Jessie and two of her three children. He built and opened “Richie Hall’s Garage”, specializing in repair of foreign cars before many other mechanics felt comfortable doing so, and welding. Over the years, Richie served the Fairlee Community, for 10 years on the Fairlee Volunteer Fire Department and 14 years as a town selectboard member.
Previously Richie lived and worked in Toms River, NJ, where in 1949, he began a side career of 14 years as a NASCAR driver. He sponsored his own modified Ford, and was instrumental as an early racer in developing the rules for the hugely popular NASCAR racing organization.
He leaves his wife Jessie Hall of Fairlee; a daughter Cathy Schultz of Virginia; three step-children: Rick Fritschka of New Milford, NJ, Theresa McCormack of Proctor, VT, and Tom Fritschka of Gilmanton, NH; five granddaughters; one great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.
