    Barbara Partington

    September 8, 1926 - August 7, 2017

    West Topsham, VT- Barbara Partington, 90, of West Topsham died Monday, August 7, 2017 at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. with family by her side.Barbara was born on September 8, 1926 the daughter of Glen and Marjorie (Miles) Colby. Barbara grew up at the four corners in Topsham, VT., know now as Colby Road, and went to a one room school house, and graduated from Bradford Academy and Lyndon State College as a Teacher.She taught in West Topsham for one year and at Waits River Valley School for twenty years. She was a member of the Vermont Retired Teachers Association.Barbara was active in the Riverside Grange where she served as secretary and Pianist, also received her forty year pin this summer, she was a devoted long time member and former pianist of the New Hope United Methodist Church. She served as an auditor for the Town of Topsham from 1986-1995, was a member of the Topsham History Committee and an editor on the town history documented in "Topsham" Sketchers. She enjoyed reading, traveling and going to the Senior Center, she loved her family and spending time with family and she enjoyed beagles.Barbara was married to Milton Partington on February 9, 1946, he predeceased her on November 10, 1996.She is survived by her children, Robert Partington and his wife Pam of Waits River, VT., Richard Partington of Groton, VT., David Partington and his wife Carole of Danville, VT., Stuart Partington and his wife Sally of North Eaton, MA and Sharon Proctor of Groton, VT.; one brother, Richard Colby and his wife Joyce of Barre, VT.; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three adopted great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Tri-Village Fire Department, West Topsham, VT 05086 or the New Hope United Methodist Church, PO Box 33, West Topsham, VT 05086.Visiting hours will be held on August 15, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford, VT.
