Charles P. Chandler

Chuck was born in Springfield Mass. on Oct.15 1929, the second of four children of Charles P Chandler and Alice Devins Chandler. As a youth he joined Cub scouts and Boy Scouts,but at age 12 became a Sea Scout in Springfield Mass. This Scout unit maintained a 42 foot motor launch on the Connecticut River where the members spent much of their after school time.For several summers they traveled down river to Long Island Sound and would traverse the coast to Cape Cod and across the Sound to Long Island itself. His interest in boating prompted him to join the U.S.Navy for three years following high school. After initial training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, he spent much of the remainder of his enlistment at the Memphis Naval Air Station. He was employed by the City of Springfield Department of Streets and Engineering. Working the evening shift,he enrolled in American International College(AIC) and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. In 1977 he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern M aine. While at AIC he was named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" and served as Vice President of the Scholastic Honor Society. While attending AIC he married Barbara Burgess who passed away at age 34 from a heart condition. After graduation he was employed by a large CPA firm in their Los Angeles,Boston and Worcester offices from 1956 to 1961. He became a CPA in Massachussets, Maine and New Hampshire and throughout his business career was employed by Security Acceptance Co.,Central Maine Power Co.and Jordan & Jordan,CPA's.In 1971 he started working for Maine Medical Center in Portland Me.He was Assistant to Executive V.P.,and Director of Internal Audit.He remained there until retiring in 1999. Between 1980 and 2007 , he also maintained a private income tax practice. Throughout his life he also provided volunteer services for many orginizations in M aine and New Hampshire. He is survived by his loving wife F. Patricia Chandler of Haverhill,N.H.,four children;Michael of New York City,Charles III,of Haverhill,Patrick of Portland ,Maine and Julie of Standish,Maine.He is also survived by a brother Robert B. Chandler and wife Kiyo of Springfield Mass.,a sister Anne E. Dolack of Waynesboro Va. and two Grandchildren Emily and Charles IV. He is predeceased by a sister Mary Alice Chandler ,his father Charles P. Chandler Sr.and his mother Alice E. Chandler. There will be no calling hours.A Funeral Mass will be held at St.Josephs Catholic Church in Portland, Maine on Friday ,March 4 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the spring in Belchertown Mass.
