Fairlee, VT- Franklin George Godfrey, 77 of Fairlee died May 7, 2011 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT following a brief illness. He was born January 18, 1934 in Thetford, VT the son of Merton N. and Annie (Bacon) Godfrey. He graduated from Thetford Academy in 1953. On March 17, 1956 he was married to Margaret Leonard and together they raised four children. In his early years he worked in the Elizabeth Copper Mines in Strafford, VT and on many farms in the local Thetford area. He worked as a licensed Electrician on the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH and the Levorne Field House at Dartmouth College, Power Plants in Plymouth, MA and Oswego, NY. He also worked several years for M&M Equipment and Moulton Equipment in West Lebanon, NH and for many years for C.W. Gray & Sons in East Thetford, VT. Frank also built and remolded many homes. After his retirement he kept busy as a handy man and helper to his many friends and prided himself in being a jack of all trades. He was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He enjoyed his time spent with family and friends, touring back roads, going out to eat, putting together puzzles, cooking and gardening, especially raising gladiolas. Frank had great fun during baseball season harassing those he knew that rooted for the Boston Red Sox. He is survived by one daughter, Wendy and her husband Karl McCullough of Tunbridge, VT., three sons, Wayne H. Godfrey of Springfield, VT., Brian A. Godfrey of VT. and New Mexico and Bruce A. Godfrey of Canaan, NH; also Margaret A. Godfrey of Canaan, NH.; four grandchildren, Dawn ( Godfrey) Derby, Jason Godfrey, Kaleb McCullough, Dolcie McCullough and twelve great-grandchildren.; two brothers, Bernard and his wife Jean Godfrey of East Thetford, VT and Richard Godfrey of Lebanon, NH.; three sisters, Ruth and her husband Roger Jenks of Lyme, NH., Helen Doyle of Chelsea, VT and Barbara Smith of Hanover, NH and a favorite to many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Clay and Mary Churchill. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 10 am in the family lot in the Evergreen Rest Cemetery in Thetford Center, VT. with fellowship to follow. There are no calling hours.
