He was born in Woodsville, NH on March 7th, 1952 and was the son of Kenneth W. and Pearl (Monet) Appleton. He grew up in Waits River and Bradford and attended high school at Bradford Academy where he was an active member of the FFA, Auto Club and was vice president of his Sophomore Class. Jim married Joyce McLam on September 24, 1977. They lived in Waits River and in 1983, moved to Corinth with their two children, Melissa and Roger. He worked on the Family Dairy Farms for many years and then worked as a Carpenter with Reggie Bishop. He then worked for Wyman's Meter and Tank in Montpelier and Lee Jackson, installing fuel tanks. In the mid 90s he started logging and remained a logger until 2004 when he had to stop due to health issues. Jim was a loving caring husband, father, brother, uncle and son in-law who will be greatly missed. He enjoyed snowmobiling, auto racing, farming, riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, boating, spending time with his dog, Sadie, and visiting with family and friends. Jim was passionate about Politics and in the recent years enjoyed living in his new home on Limlaw Road, especially cookouts on the hill by the fire. He was predeceased by his parents, brother in-law Peter Brooks and his nephew and good friend Lenny McLam. Jim's absence will be deeply felt by those who loved him. He leaves his wife and best friend, Joy, his daughter Melissa and her partner Steve, his son Roger and daughter in-law Emily. He leaves his twin brother Jerry and his wife Ginny and their daughter and grandchildren, older brother Bill and his wife Carol and their children, brother Mick, sisters Lillian and Marie, and her children and grandchildren. He also leaves his mother and father in-law, Chet and Freda and their children and grandchildren. Jim will also be missed by many close friends. Visiting hours will be held on January 20th from 6-8 pm at Hale Funeral Home on Upper Plain in Bradford and a Memorial service will be held on January 21st at 11am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations can be made in Jim's name to Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hospital.
