John William Pike

Lyme, N.H. John William Pike, 57, passed away on Monday, Nov.28, 2016 at his home in Bradford, VT. He was born in Lyme, N.H. to Lon and Susan (Waterbury) Pike on February 18, 1959. John grew up in Lyme and attended Orford High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy after high school, and served for 3 years in the Navy from 1978 to 1981.John worked as a mason, construction worker, a property caretaker, and many other jobs for a number of companies through the years. He lived in Lyme most of his life, and moved to Bradford in recent years. Everyone loved John because he was very easygoing and had a great sense of humor, and he had many good friends throughout the Upper Valley area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and could drive and fix any truck or farming equipment. John especially loved animals, big and small, whether he was caring for farm animals on his family's farm, collecting exotic breeds of chickens just for fun, or rescuing an endless number of lucky pets, including his most recent beloved dog, Lady.John is survived by his siblings, Martha M. (Pike) Smith, David Pike, and Peggy (Pike) Gardner; nieces and nephews Jedediah Smith, Abigail Smith, Zane Pike, Maddy Gardner, and Nick Gardner; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.Family and friends are invited to a Graveside Service for John on Saturday, Dec.10, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Lyme.After the ceremony, everyone is invited to share memories of John at a reception with refreshments provided by the Lyme Ladies Aid in the vestry of the First Baptist Church in Lyme Center.The Hale Funeral Homes and Cremation Care are in charge of arrangements.An online guest book will be available to leave a message of condolence for John's family by visiting www.halefuneralhomes.com.
