    November 29, 1926 - September 25, 2011

    Lillian M. McGovern Orford, NH. - Lillian M. McGovern died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the Genesis Rehabilitation Center, Lebanon, NH, with her husband Philip J. McGovern at her side. She was born Nov. 29, 1926, in White Plains, NY, to Thomas Romaine and Lillie Schmitz. A long-time resident of Hawthorne, NY, Lillian attended the Hawthorne Elementary School and Briarcliff High School. She held accounting positions at a number of firms in Westchester County, NY, including Georg Jensen, Saint Agnes Hospital and Northern Westchester Hospital. She and Philip were parishioners and choir members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hawthorne, NY. An accomplished artist, singer, poet and gardener, Lillian was a member of the Rye Shoreline Chapter of Sweet Adelines and performed professionally in the area with a folk guitar quartet. Lillian and husband Philip moved to Orford, NH, in 1985.Their daughter Kathleen joined them there in 1987. Lillian and Philip were members of the choirs of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Bradford, VT and the Congregational Church in Orford. Lillian enjoyed entertaining her family and many friends in her home and sharing with them her latest artistic creations and the culinary delights which she and daughter Kathleen prepared. Her treasured Orford home may have indeed provided her ultimate creative canvas. Lillian and Philip celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Sept. 23, 2011. She is survived by her husband Philip, brother Charles H. Smith and his wife Joan of Port Washington, NY; son Robert and his wife Pnitpim of Lampang, Thailand; daughter Patricia Jokajtys of Baldwinsville, NY; daughter Kathleen of Orford, NH; granddaughter Amanda Yousey of Baldwinsville, NY; grandson Matthew Jokajtys of Manhasset, NY; and eight nieces and nephews. Lillian will be remembered on Thursday Sept. 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Hale Funeral Home, Bradford, VT and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday Sept. 29 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Bradford, VT. with Father Vincent Onunkwo officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the East Orford Cemetery in East Orford, NH. The Hale Funeral Home of Bradford, VT is in charge of arrangements.
