    Margaret Read Carlan

    March 8, 2018

Bradford, VTAfter 87 years of life Margaret Read Carlan, of North Main Street, Bradford, died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Cottage Hospital where her loving son and exceptional hospital staff comforted her.Born on May 30, 1930 in Nashua, NH, she was the only child of George H. Read and Marion (Brigham) Read.Margaret grew up and attended schools in Needham, MA, graduating from Needham High School in 1948. An array of businesses and family experiences gave her a wealth of human understanding to draw upon. And even with her last job of 3 decades at Perry's Oil she respectfully held confidence to all the things that she must have known. With husband Larry Reeves she gave life to twins Michael and Kristin. With husband Malcom Spangenberg, who predeceased her, she gave life to son Read. With a later husband, Robert J. Carlan, who also predeceased her, Margaret was drawn to Vermont, home of her mother, with hopes of a less stressful life.Margaret enjoyed being independent, studying classic movies, cooking and entertaining with friends and family. Her gifts were always perfectly matched for recipients and for the love she wanted to share. Playing cards kept her mind sharp. She was a long time member of the Bradford United Church of Christ and thoroughly enjoyed their Valentine's deliveries these last years.Margaret is survived and will continue to be loved by her two sons; Michael Reeves and his wife Wanda of S. Royalton, and Read Carlan and his wife Jean of Bradford and her daughter, Kristin Krauskopf and her husband Paul of Mount Vernon, NY. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren; Megan and Allison of Bradford, and Margaret and great grandson, Shaun. Her grandson Mikey predeceases her.A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00pm to 5:00pm Saturday, April 7 at the Bradford Congregational Church (UCC). A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 31 at St. Albans Bay Cemetery, St. Albans, VT.In lieu of flowers, please spend an extra moment with your loved ones - perhaps just a drive, baking brownies or delivering a spring bouquet - all things that Margaret would love to do this time of year.Hale Funeral Homes and Cremation Care of Bradford & Thetford, VT is assisting the family with arrangements.
