She was born during an early winter snow storm on November 6, 1933 in her family home on World's End, Hingham, Massachusetts.Mary Louise spent most of her life in Hingham, with a lifelong focus on political activism in hopes of bringing peace to the world. She gardened, read diversely, traveled and was passionate about the environment. Mary Louise graduated from Sacred Heart High School and then graduated from Stonehill College as one of the first women attending this school. She married Philip F. Collier and then spent time in Virginia and Okinawa, ultimately returning to Hingham, MA. She obtained her Masters in Social Work from Simmons College in Boston while raising four children as a single parent. She worked for many years as a therapist and social worker. After retirement, she volunteered for many years at the Hingham Public Library. In 1986 Mary Louise resigned from her job, packed her bags and joined The Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament. This was a cross-country march consisting of hundreds of people aimed at raising awareness to the growing danger of nuclear proliferation. The group left Los Angeles on March 1, 1986 and arrived in Washington, D.C. on November 15, 1986, a journey of about 3,700 miles, nine months, and many campsites.Mary Louise was predeceased by her parents James Arthur Campbell and Margaret McCaffrey and two brothers, James and Douglas. She is survived by her sister Margaret Campbell Vasington of Stafford Springs, CT and her brother Brian Campbell of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her children Beth Collier of Santa Monica, CA; Dana Collier Zurzolo of Thousand Oaks, CA; Peter Collier of Manila, Philippines; and Melanie Collier Lawrence of Newbury, Vermont. Mary Louise lived to see all of her children marry and create their own career passions and families, including 5 grandchildren: Benjamin Collier Cole, Morgan E. Collier Cole, Emily Collier Skehan, and Maya and Eva Collier. She leaves behind so many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins that were a big part of her life. Her neighbors, friends and political compatriots are also too numerous to name but brought spark and meaning to her life.In her final years, Mary Louise lived in Newbury, VT with her infamous high energy-dog Tres, and most recently in Manila, Philippines. A celebration of life will be on World's End in Hingham, MA at a future date.
