Bradford, VT- Max Daniel Newton, Jr, 94Max Daniel Newton, age 94 passed away peacefully at the Valley Terrace Assisted Living home in White River Jct., Vermont onJanuary 6, 2017, while he was surrounded by his loving family.Danwas born inLong Valley, NJonJune 11, 1922. Graduated the Class of 1940 from North Arlington High School in NJ and continued on with his education at Peddie School, Hightstown, NJ. During WW II, Dan served with distinction in the United States Army in the European Theater in the countries of France, Belgium and Germany. Upon Dan's return from the war he married his high school sweetheart, Mae L. Lindberg on December 29, 1945 and recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.As young man, Danworked within his Father's business, Forest Dairy, along with other members of the Newton family. After Dan's father, Max, passed away in 1949, he became a co-owner with his siblings of the family's dairy processing and delivery business, which served Northern NJ. While growing up in NJ, Dan always dreamed of returning to his family roots in Vermont and moved to Corinth with his family in 1975, to help start Newton Enterprises in the Town of Fairlee. During his retirement years, Dan resided in Bradford with his beloved wife Mae. As a business leader in NJ, Dan served in different capacities, which included President of the local Lions Club. Some of his many hobbies and activities included, league bowling, horseshoes and fly-fishing with his closest lifelong, buddies. In Dan's senior years, he developed his greenhouse talents, while learning and enjoying new varieties of plant life in the Vermont outdoors and within his greenhouse. Dan and his wife Mae spent many hours putting puzzles together and playing cards and other games with family and friends. One of Dan's many lifelong quotations could be heard, when he said, "I am the richest man in the world because I am surrounded by a very loving family."Danis survived byhis wife, Mae L. Newton; sister, Alberta D. Hill; son, Donald M. Newton and wife Joyce of Fairlee; son, Kenneth L. Newton and wife Eileen of Fairlee; daughter, Janice A Mueller and husband George of Warren, Maine; son, Richard D. Newton and wife Cathleen of West Hartford; grandchildren, Colleen Newton Pause and husband Dan; Kimberly LeFeure and husband David; Erin Cleland and husband Jeff; Melissa Newton; Robyn Newton and Kate; Karen Newton; Brian Newton; Cynthia Sincyr and husband Jason; Amy Moody and husband Raymond; Tracey Beaudry and husband Sean; Eric Newton; Owen Newton; 21-great grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.Danis preceded in death byFather, Max D. Newton; Mother, Alberta S. Newton (Day); Brother, Herbert Newton; Sister, Eleanor Newton, great grandson, Isaiah Newton Roberts.The funeral service will be held at2:00 PM, Monday, January 9atthe Hale Funeral Home, with Pastor, Dick Hodge officiating.
