    Shirley Ann (Hill) Leete

    July 12, 1929 - February 20, 2018

Wells River, VTShirley Ann (Hill) Leete of Wells River, VT, died peacefully at the Grafton County Nursing Home on February 20, 2018, leaving this world to join her loving husband, Delbert and beloved son, Gary.Shirley was born on July 12, 1929 in Springfield, VT. She attended school in Monroe, NH where she enjoyed playing basketball. After Graduating from Wells River High School she married Delbert Leete on July 5, 1947. Together they raised four children, worked side by side on their dairy farms, traveled the world and enjoyed 70 wonderful years of marriage. In her younger days, Shirley was a member of the McLure's band, playing the clarinet and she was also a talented organist. Music was a shared pleasure and a big part of life for Delbert and Shirley; from attending local dances with family and friends, watching many of their favorite performers at shows during their travels, to holding their own popular barn dances on the second floor of their barn on Route 302, with food prepared by Shirley. Their love for each other shined anytime they danced together.Always by Delbert's side through every endeavor and adventure, Shirley was a loving and supportive companion, who Delbert credited for all of his successes. Their devotion to each other and their family was remarkable. Shirley often commented on how they never went places without each other.Shirley truly lived her life for her husband and family. She worked tirelessly preparing countless meals, not only for family, but for anyone working on the farm or who dropped by for a visit. It was impossible to walk away from the Leete table hungry! She knitted for many years, making beautiful scarves, mittens, socks and blankets for all of her children and grandchildren, many which have been passed down to great- grandchildren to enjoy. While they enjoyed traveling, and spending winters in Florida after retirement, Shirley was always eager to get back home and be close to her family, never returning from anywhere without a gift for everyone.Shirley is survived by her three daughters; Sharon Cassidy, Barbara St. Laurent (Joe Maccini), and Linda Gregory (Don), a sister, Betty Maynes, 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.A private graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's name to the American Diabetes's Foundation, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202 or by visiting http://www.diabetes.orgHale Funeral Home and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
