Valora Jeanette McLure

Wells River, VT- Valora Jeanette Corliss McLure, 96, of Wells River died Wednesday, November 12, 2015 at Cottage Hospital surrounded by her family.She was born on October 9, 1919 the daughter of Edward Miller Corliss and Alice Estelle Simmons. Mrs. McLure attended grade school in a one room school house next to her home. Some of the memories she shared with her family included helping to feed the wood stove and walking home to the farmhouse for lunch. She attended high school at St. Johnsbury Academy for two years as a boarding student and lived briefly in East St. Johnsbury for the remaining two years.Valora spent her childhood in Ryegate working on the family farm and, after high school, supporting her ailing father. She milked cows, harvested crops and drove the milk to market in a horse drawn wagon. After her marriage in 1945, she continued farming throughout her adult life while raising seven children until her retirement. She lived her ninety-six years on the Corliss-McLure family farm. Always gracious and kind, she cared deeply for her family, church, and community. She offered her beautiful soprano voice, often in duet with her sister, Evelyn in many choir offerings and community gatherings and sang solos for many local weddings. She especially enjoyed close family gatherings and holiday celebrations.Valora is survived by her brother Duncan S. Corliss and wife Shirley of Lebanon, NH; by three sons, Edward F. McLure and wife Sharon of Ryegate, VT; Norman W. McLure and wife Sandra of Cambridge, VT; and Nicholas A. McLure and wife Holly of Ryegate, VT; three daughters, Jacqueline E. Hatch of Ryegate, VT; Jennifer J. Ricker and husband Kevin of Vershire, VT; Marie A. McLure of Ryegate, VT; and former daughter-in-law Judy E. McLure of Lebanon, N.H.; grandchildren, Kimberly A. McLure and Ayaz Asif, Jared W. McLure and wife Cathy, Marisa L. Monette and husband Adam, Justin H. McLure, Morgan L. McLure, A. Dawn and Charlie E. Thetford,Emily V. Ricker, as well as her great-grandchildren, Lillian E. and Braden E. McLure, Olivia I. Monette and many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband Warren N. McLure in 1993, her daughter, Jeanette L. McLure in 1990, and her beloved sister, Evelyn Corliss Brown in 1990.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ryegate Presbyterian Church in Ryegate, VT with Rev. Carol Barker. Visiting hours will be one hour prior to the service from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Ryegate Corner Cemetery.As Valora especially loved the color red, please honor her by wearing red, a red flower, or a red decoration.
