Bradford, VT- William V. Fleming, 86, of High Street in Bradford died Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born on June 30, 1924 the son of Clarence and Hazel (Wine) Fleming. He attended the school for the Blind in Staunton, VA. He was employed in the District of Columbia school system as maintenance worker and in 1973 they moved to Mattawamkeag, Maine where there owned and operated B&J General Store for more than twenty years and retired to Romney, WV and in the fall of 2006 moved to Bradford, VT where they have since made their home. On August 22, 1974 he was married to Genevieve Tucker who survives. He was a member of the Bradford Congregation Church in Bradford, VT. He enjoyed country music, reading, and gardening, was an avid hiker and loved to walk. He had also been a selectman in Mattawamkeag for a couple of years. He is survived by his wife Genevieve of Bradford, VT.; one daughter, Bonnie Turley of Sperryville, VA.; two step sons, Carl Slagle of Alexandria, VA and Scott Slagle of Mineral, VA.; one half brother, Earl Statzer of Largo, FL.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 1 pm in the Bradford Congregational Church in Bradford, VT. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place in the family lot in the East Orange Cemetery in East Orange, VT. The Hale Funeral Home of Bradford, VT is in charge of arrangements.
