Corinth, VT- Berton L. Sumner, 83, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after undergoing surgery three weeks ago. He was born in Corinth, VT on March 23, 1930 the only son of Allen Lee Sumner and Rita Sykes Sumner. On December 3, 1956 he married Bessie Maude Burroughs of Corinth, VT. Survivors included his wife and two children, Natatlie Scovel and her husband of Corinth, VT and Bryce Sumner also from Corinth, VT.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Berton was a true Vermonter, faithful husband of fifty-six years and a honest hard working man. He was born and raised on a farm in Goose Green Vermont. He farmed for many years with his parents, as well as trucked cattle. In his later years he spent twenty of them trucking farm equipment for L.W. Greenwood and Sons out of East Randolph, VT. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11 am in the family lot in the Post Mills Cemetery in Post Mills, VT. There are no calling hours.
