Bradford, VT-Betty Sweitzer, 96, of South Pleasant Street died September 29, 2019 at her home.She was born August 9, 1923 in Reading, PA the daughter of Earl Becker and Ruth (Schlotman) Becker. She received her education in multiple schools in the Reading, PA area, and graduated high school as salutatorian. After her schooling on October 16, 1941, she married Harry Arthur Sweitzer in Bernville, PA.After World War II, Betty and Harry bought a small farm where she took care of animals, while he worked in a factory. She moved to Bradford, VT in 1986 after his death, to live with Claire Robitzer and her family.Mrs. Sweitzer was active knitting and crocheting for Church World Services thru the United Congregational Church in Bradford, VT. She was also a co-leader for the local Girl Scout Troop and loved camping.Survivors include a son, Terry Sweitzer (Lasell Bartlett) of Lynch Station, VA, and a daughter, Claire Robitzer of Bradford, VT, two grandsons, and a great-grandson. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Robert Becker, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Robitzer.Graveside funeral services will be held April 27th at 1:00PM in Sawyer Cemetery in Bradford, VT. Claire Louise Sweitzer-Robitzer, 74 of Bradford passed away peacefully at 11:15 PM on February 12, 2022, at the Jack Byrne Palliative Care Center in Lebanon, NH. Claire was born on April 26, 1947, in Reading, PA. After High School she studied to be an RN at St. Joe’s Hospital School in Reading. Following graduation, she entered the US Army for three years, leaving as a 1St Lieutenant. After moving to Vermont, she began a lengthy career as an RN at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, NH. She retired in 2019, after 47 years there. Claire leaves behind her son Frederick Robitzer of Bradford, VT, her brother Terry Sweitzer of Lynch Station, VA, her nephew Todd Sweitzer of Lancaster, PA, A niece Karen Becker-Smith of Laureldale, PA, her best friend Nancy Cherrier of Bradford, VT and her former husband Max Robitzer of Wells River, VT, who remained a close and helpful friend after their separation. She was predeceased by her parents, Betty and Harry Sweitzer and her Daughter Jennifer Robitzer. Claire enjoyed kayaking; most frequently at Long Pond in Benton, NH, mainly due to the quiet and relaxing atmosphere abundance of wildlife there. She also enjoyed building and planting flowerbeds at her home, where she had a special touch and magical eye for creating the most beautiful arrangements of colorful and exotic plants and flowers. Claire loved animals, especially her pets. She spent many years caring for her beloved Newfoundland dogs, and most recently had rescued an adorable mixed breed girl named “Gracie”.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to her favorite charity the “Make-A-Wish Foundation”. Burial will be on Wednesday, April 27th at 1:00pm in Sawyer Cemetery in Bradford.
