Bryce Alson Metcalf

Bradford, VT- Bryce Alson Metcalf, 90 yrs. old and the Recipient of the Bradford Cane in 2016 passed away on December 22nd in Bradford, Vt. The only son of William and Ethel (Sweet) Metcalf, Bryce was born and raised on Taplin Hill Road in East Corinth on the Metcalf Family Farm with his two Sisters, Eris and Vida. He graduated from Bradford Academy in 1944, where he was a star athlete on the Boys Basketball Team and Baseball Team. Soon after graduation, Bryce married Natalie Wright and they started their family and took over the farm as the 3 rd generation to run the farm, which was built by his Grandfather Charles. Raising five children and building the farm into a well-known establishment and breeder of Registered Holsteins, Bryce and Natalie ran the farm, with the help of their son, Bill, until a fire destroyed the barn in 1978. The house and land remained, the Grandchildren having many years of enjoyment going to Taplin Hill for family gatherings, until eventually the house and land were also sold. Bryce moved to Bradford and lived with the love of his life, Margaret Kennedy, for many years, until her death in 2005. They vacationed in Florida for many winters and had years of happiness with friends and family. Bryce continued to reside in Bradford, visiting Taplin Hill on occasion, living independently, still driving, enjoying the Boston Celtics and Red Sox until his death.Bryce leaves his children, Becky Hayward of Fairlee VT Cynthia Spellane of Holden Ma, William Metcalf of Oakland Park FL, Bryce Metcalf of Ferndale WA. His Grandchildren Gary Hayward, Stephanie Adams, Matthew Munn, Liz Munn Davis, Mark and Michael Sadowski.Bryce also leaves 12 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great- Great Grandchildren. He also leaves hisSisters, Eris Eastman of Bradford and Palm Springs FL and Vida Perry Munson of Bradford and Eris's and Vida's children, his Nephews and Niece, and many cousins. He leaves his former brother-in-law and wife Dale and Raelene Wright and family, former sister-in-law Vilma Wright and her family, and the Lavoie Families of Haverhill NH. Bryce leaves his oldest friends Dustin White from Corinth, Freeman Robie of Piermont NH and his dearest friend Otis Rathburn. The family thanks Otis for all he did for Bryce in friendship. Bryce was predeceased by Margaret Eastman Kennedy, his ex-wife Natalie Allen, his Daughter, Mary Munn of Bradford and his Granddaughters Suzette Hayward Pratt of Fairlee and Sarah Sadowski of Holden MA.The Hale Funeral Homes and Cremation care of Bradford, VT is in charge of arrangements.To view an online guestbook, go to www.halefuneralhomes.com.Bryce was a very private man and his burial will be private.
