Carol Porter, 79, of Fairlee, Vermont, passed away peacefully in her home on October 16, 2026, with her loving family by her side. Her son Ronald has been her caregiver and very close to her side since December 2025 when she started having health issues. Carol was born in Hanover on November 26, 1946 to Zane and Dolores(Piper) Campbell. Many knew her parents from owning, operating and rebuilding the Lyme Country Store after a fire destroyed the business. Carol spent much of her life in the area. Until retirement, Carol worked as the storekeeper of their family grocery, Pattersons Grocery in Orford, NH. Carol also owned and operated TCBY (The country’s best yogurt) in Lebanon NH. She worked by her late husband’s side for many years helping him run the Glass Store in White River, Jct., VT. Carol was very active with the Restorative Justice Program in W.R. Jct., VT for many years, trying to help incarcerated persons and those suffering from addiction disorders. Carol also managed many rental properties until she became ill.
Known as Granny to her family, Carol loved them immensely. Carol will be remembered for the laughs she shared with her family. She enjoyed going to the Christmas Bazaar, family poker games, camping at the Pastures Campground and bingo. Memories include riding Harleys with her late husband, Gary and going to rallies at Lake George. Carol was able to achieve a bucket list vacation in Hawaii before passing.
Predeceasing Carol are her parents and her husband, Gary Porter. Survivors include her child Ronald Patterson, Tony Patterson (predeceased) and Kimberly Scholer and her husband Mark that she was able to reconnect with; as well as her Grandchildren Jacoby Patterson and his significant other Natalie Perry, Jocelyn Patterson and her significant other Anthony Barnett. Siblings include Julie Bell and her son Luke Bell and Christie Adams and her sons Ty and Chad Peavey. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews as well as her dog JJ, which meant the world to her and was named after her granchildren’s first initials.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 31st at Hartland Village Cemetery in Hartland, Vermont. Following the Graveside Service, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1pm to 3pm at Lake Morey Resort.
