Claudia M. Smith

Claudia M. Smith, 74, of Corinth, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023, at Springfield Health and Rehab, in Springfield, VT. She was born at the Martha Fuller home in Piermont, NH on November 20, 1948. She is the daughter of Wayne and Rose (Callahan) Darling. She lived with her grandmother, Marion Darling, and Aunt, Rena Darling, from 1953 until the fall of 1962. She attended the Vershire Elementary School while residing with her father Wayne and stepmother, Lois Lyman Darling. She attended South Royalton High School.
Claudia married Harold Smith of Pike Hill, in Corinth. They were married on May 6, 1967, in Vershire, Vermont. They made their home on Pike Hill after their marriage.
Claudia enjoyed gardening and raising plants in her greenhouse. She learned the art of crocheting from her grandmother and made Christmas wreaths and garlands. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #20., as well as the Vershire Historical Society since 1993.
Claudia is survived by her son Joseph J. Smith and his partner Allisa Fifield and their son Joseph Jr. of Bradford, daughter Florence R. Smith, sisters Diann Ward of Vershire, and Patricia Couture of Bethel, VT, half-sisters Margaret Pearson of Conifer, CO, Penny Severance and Daisy Darling of South Royalton, VT, half-brother Glenn Darling of Randolph Center, VT, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her husband Harold Smith, sons George Smith and Harold Smith Jr., parents Wayne and Rose Darling, her Aunt Rena Darling, and stepfather Donald J. Hooper.
There will be a graveside service for Claudia on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Waits River Cemetery in Topsham Vt.at 12:00 pm.
