HANOVER NH-Beloved Mother and Nurse Cynthia G. Pratt Blake passed into the loving arms of our Lord at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover NH on January 4 ,2024. She was born on August 31, 1932, the only child of John and Edna (Hayward) Gibbs in Bradford, VT.
Raised in Bradford her childhood dream was to be a Registered Nurse and she fulfilled that goal at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1953.
On August 30,1953 she married R George Pratt Jr. also of Bradford and began her nursing career at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH, now Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Cynthia worked in many capacities of nursing at MHMH and for Dr Kenneth Murdock in Bradford but found her true calling as a Pediatric Nurse in the Pedi and OBGYN clinics at MHMH and finally as a school nurse at Oxbow Union High School until retirement.
On March 9,1955 their daughter Julie Ann Pratt was born, followed by John Avery Pratt on September 6, 1956, and Jody Ann Pratt on September 3,1965. They lived in Bradford, then Rutland VT for several years, returning to Bradford upon the illness and subsequent death of Cynthia’s mother Edna. Summers were spent joyously at their camp on Lake Morey in Fairlee VT.
Cynthia and George divorced in 1973 and she married the late Lloyd V. Blake. They spent many happy years traveling and wintering in Fountain Hills, Arizona and Lloyd taught her to golf which she loved and excelled at. She was a member of the Lake Morey Ladies Golf Assoc., enjoying her “golf buddies” and staying active with her lifelong nursing friends and fellow Mary Hitchcock classmates and graduates.
Over the past few years Cynthia’s memory declined but she never forgot that she was a nurse, and she was always “on duty” as her nurses and caretakers at Hanover Terrace can attest.
The family would like to thank her caretakers at the Margaret Pratt Center in Bradford, VT, and at Hanover Terrace where she resided more recently and where she was lovingly cared for like family. In addition, we would like to thank Bayada Hospice Care for their care and guidance at the end of Cynthia’s life and a special prayer of thanks and gratitude to Brenda Sargent Patnode who became a great friend and caretaker to Mom over the years.
Cynthia is survived by daughter Julie Morgan (Elisha Ralph) of Austin TX, John Pratt (Stacey) of Bradford VT, Jody Ameden (Phil) of Bridgton ME, stepson Marshall Blake (Terri) of Syracuse, NY, granddaughters Ashley Hashimoto of Austin TX, Ariel Pike (Jonathan) and Alexis Pratt of Charleston SC, Jillian Clark of Manchester, NH and 5 beloved great grandchildren.
