Daryl W. Gwilt

Daryl W. Gwilt of Haverhill, NH passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock - Jack Byrne Hospice and Palliative Care Center on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the young age of 54 years.Born on January 25, 1964 in Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada, he was the son of Gordon and Olive (nee Lough) Gwilt.Daryl grew up in Brandon, Manitoba and was a graduate of Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing.He moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1993 where he worked as a Registered Nurse at Driscoll Children's Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Daryl was an avid bodybuilder for many years and caring for neonates he could hold in the palm of his hand, he soon became known as the Gentle Giant.He met fellow Canadian, Lorraine (Lori) Berkhout, while in Texas and they were married on February 26, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to New Hampshire that year. Here he worked in the Intensive Care Nursery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center until 2009. He worked in the Hematology/Oncology Infusion Clinic at DHMC for the next 9 years where he knew he had found his calling. He adored his co-workers and his patients.Daryl is survived by his loving wife Lori (nee Berkhout) Gwilt, a son Benjamin and a daughter Erin all of Haverhill. His two brothers: Blair (MarLou) & Kevin (Carmen); his in-laws: Sam & Theresa Berkhout; brother & sister-in-laws: Bob Berkhout (Patti) and Cathy Berkhout; nieces & nephews: Danielle, Dakota, Austin, Bryden, Mya (son-Leo), Sam, Lea, Maxime (daughter-Genevieve), Mitchell & Maureen. He was pre-deceased by his parents Gordon and Olive Gwilt.A Memorial service will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the North Haverhill United Methodist Church.
