TOPSHAM – David James Smith passed away peacefully in Randolph Center, VT, on April 16, 2025, with his family surrounding him at the age of 55. He was born on May 28, 1969, in Berlin, VT. He was the son of Sheldon Smith and Barbara (Babs) Smith of Topsham, VT, where he had lived most of his life. He had been battling Parkinson’s for the last few years. David developed pneumonia and he couldn’t survive it. He was on hospice for three days. He had been living in Randolph Center for the last 10 months with loving and caring home providers.
David went to school in Topsham and went to high school at Oxbow in Bradford. He loved fishing, hunting, and being around his friends. He also loved NASCAR and going to Bear Ridge for racing to see his favorite drivers. His favorite music was good old country. During his high school years, he worked at Lake Morey Inn in Fairlee. After he graduated, he worked at Copeland’s furniture factory in Bradford.
David was predeceased by his father Sheldon Smith, and his brother Jerry Smith.
He is survived by his mother Babs, his sister-in-law Cecile Smith, his niece Tiffany Smith, his aunts Mary Smith and Helen Rodriguez, uncles Stanley Smith, George Weaver, and Richard Vavara, and many cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Topsham, VT.
