Dorothy Mae Corliss

July 22, 1938 — June 11, 2025

BRADFORD-Dorothy Mae Corliss, 86, of Bradford, VT, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2025. Born on July 22, 1938, in Bradford, VT, Dorothy was one of seven children of Archibald and Delia (Merrit) Wright.
A graduate of Bradford Academy, she enjoyed basketball and had a passion for drawing. On December 15, 1962, she married John Corliss, and together they lived happily in Freemont Ritchies farmhouse in Piermont, NH, before returning to the Corliss family farm in Bradford, VT, in 1980. Dorothy and John raised four daughters—Mona, Marie, Marlene, and Marla—as well as two stepsons, Steven and Alan.
Dorothy and John both worked for many years at Bradford Veneer and Panel Co. before retiring. They cherished their home life, family, and hobbies, which included gardening, raising animals, hunting, reading the daily newspaper, "Hee Haw." The couple also took pleasure in searching for rare coins, visiting with Nancy and Earnie Hartley, and tackling the daily crossword puzzles. Above all, they treasured the time spent with family hanging around grandma’s big old dining room table.
In her later years, following John’s passing, Dorothy found companionship in her beloved pet cats (all of them) and dogs (Blue, Jax, and Gizmo) and enjoyed visits with neighbors as well as convincing the neighborhood chickens and crows to visit!! She took immense pride in mowing her lawn and loved observing the Swenson family during their haying seasons.
Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings—Wesley, Clifford, Richard, Donald, Chet, and Barbara—as well as her husband, John; her stepson, Alan; her grandson, Sage; and her daughter, Marla.
We will forever remember her spitfire personality, yelling at us to “stay out of the fields,” or “stay out of the barn,” or “if you’re sick, you might as well get paid to be sick!!”
Give Poppy a hug for us, until we meet again.
Arrangements are in the care of Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain in Bradford.
