Duane Stanley Cook

When one has lived 70 years and knows so many, what do people say? If you knew Duane Stanley Cook, there was quite a bit to be said. Duane passed on Tuesday, August 1st at his home in Fairlee, VT, unexpectedly.
Duane was born on July 22, 1953, to Joe and Gina Cook of Union Village, VT. He graduated from Thetford Academy in Thetford, VT in 1971, and started masonry work with Hayes and Swift in Etna, NH. Thereafter, he became the property manager of Benning Street and Glen Road Plaza, in West Lebanon, NH, where he built many relationships.
Duane married Kathy Augusta Godfrey in 1977, and they spent the next 45 years raising their sons, building their home, and mowing many lawns. Duane was an active community member in the town of Fairlee, VT. He was the Fairlee Fire Department Chief for twelve years. He held all positions within the department and was still an active member up until the day he passed.
Duane had two sons, Christopher and Jared. They traveled with their dad to many racing and softball events. His two sons had children, giving Duane four fantastic grandchildren-Acadia Cook, Hudson Cook, Bohdin Movelle-Cook and Izabella Cook, who Duane loved very much.
Duane is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Gina Cook. He leaves behind his wife, Kathy Cook, his two sons and four grandchildren (aforementioned), and his four siblings and their spouses- Guy Cook, Doug Cook and his wife Kim Cook, Gary Cook and his wife Darlene Cook, and Barbara Broderick and her husband Chris Broderick.
Duane was passionate about many things. He loved racing, working, softball, working, mowing, working, fishing, all things “West Lebanon,” his pool, and anything involving his grandkids. Duane knew and touched the lives of so many people. He enjoyed helping anyone at any time, whatsoever. His friends enjoyed his company and his knowledge of all things.
Please join us for Duane’s Celebration of Life on August 13, 2023, at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, VT, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairlee Fire Brigade, P.O. Box 95, Fairlee, VT 05045.
