South Strafford, VT- Elaine M. (Stone) Hodge, 72, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.She was born February 11, 1944 in Barre, VT, the daughter of Ernest and Helen (Manning) Stone. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse on Miller Pond Road, then at the Newton Elementary School, both in South Strafford, VT, then at Thetford Academy, Thetford, VT.On October 21, 1961 she married the love of her life, Richard A. Hodge of Thetford Center, VT. They lived in Thetford Center before moving to Miller Pond in South Strafford, VT, where they raised their five children and ran a successful business together.Elaine worked for a local camp, Dartmouth Printing in Hanover, NH and for Bill Hodge's Property Service in Thetford Center, VT. Throughout her lifetime she took care of many children in her home, she loved all children. She enjoyed being outside working in her many flower gardens and berry patches. Also watching her birds, especially her humming birds and at times deer hunting and fishing with her family. She just loved being at home with her family and outdoors.Elaine is survived by her five children, Jeffrey of Post Mills, VT and companion Carissa Thurston, Christine and husband Richard Johnson of South Vershire, VT, Billy and wife Penny of South Strafford, VT, Matthew and companion Bonnie Strout of Vershire, VT and Bonnie Maxfield of Thetford Center, VT; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Hodge and fiancée Denyel Coffin, Kasey and husband Jason Needham, Melissa Hodge, Kyle Johnson, Kaitlin Hodge, Bethany Maxfield, Jonathon Strout and MaryAnn Maxfield; four great-grandchildren, Xavier Dunleavy, Abbygail, Evangeline and Immagene Needham; her mother, Helen (Manning) Stone of South Strafford, VT, ten siblings; Shirley Warden of Barnet, VT, Allen and Linda Stone of Walcott, ND, Alford and Diane Stone of Thetford Center, VT, Robert Stone of South Strafford, VT, Pauline Smith of Gorham, ME, Duane Stone of South Strafford, VT, David and Val Stone of West Fairlee, VT, Vernal and Pam Stone of South Vershire, VT, Russell and Dawn Stone of South Strafford, VT and Douglas and Ellen Stone of Thetford Center, VT, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved cat Whiskers. She was predeceased by her husband Richard A. Hodge, her father Ernest Stone, her grandparents Alford and Alice Manning of South Strafford, VT and William and Anna Stone of Barre, VT.A special thank you to Val Stone of West Fairlee, VT, Melissa Hodge, Penny and Bill Hodge, Barbara Pero, all of South Strafford, VT and Bayada Hospice of Norwich, VT for all of their kind and gentle care of Elaine.Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2 pm in the family lot in the Evergreen Rest Cemetery in Thetford Center, VT.
