Barre, VT- Elsie Mae Davis, 99, of Barre, Vermont and formerly a resident of Bradford,Vermont died Friday, July 23, 2011 at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre, VT surrounded by her family at her bedside. She was born February 13, 1912 on Hackett Hill in Bradford, VT the daughter of Harvey C. and Ila D. (Liett) Hackett. She attended the Crafts Ridge Elementary School on Flanders Brook Road in Bradford and was a 1930 graduate of Bradford Academy. On November 25, 1930 in Rutland, VT she married Fay A. Davis who predeceased her January 12, 1967. After their marriage they lived on Hackett Hill until 1942 when they moved to Groton, Connecticut where they resided for three years. They returned to Bradford where she had resided until April 1, 1995, when she moved to Graniteville. In June 2006 she Elsie became a resident of Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre, VT. She was a member of the American Legion Post #20 Auxillary and the Orange East Senior Center, she belonged to the Woman's sewing club. In her younger years she was always sewing clothes for her grandchildren and knitting or crocketing presents for someone. She had a big garden and did a lot of canning. She was an excellent cook, always cooking something for others. She loved playing cribbage and loved to dance. Elsie enjoyed many years of hunting at the Davis Family Camp on Hackett Hill. She enjoyed spending time with her family and all the hunters She is survived by daughter-in-laws, Majel Davis of Williamstown, VT and Betty Davis of Manchester, CT six grandchildren, Sandra McTaggart of Williamstown, VT., Rocky Davis of Williamstown, VT., Fay A. Davis III of Broad Brook, CT., Kitty Sweet of Orange, VT., Kathy Lynn of Andover, CT and Bonnie Dugay of Coventry, CT; fifteen great-grandchildren; twenty one great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren; one half-brother Earl Hackett of St. Cloud, FL and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sons, Kenneth Davis,George H. Davis and Fay A. Davis Jr. and four sisters, Ethel Eaton, Eleanor Burroughs, Bernice Dewing and Carrie Martin; one granddaughter, Candace K. " Davis" Hedges and one great grandson, Duane D. Emerson Funeral services will be held August 6, 2011 at 1 pm in the Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford, VT with the Rev. Cindy Batten officiating. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place in the family lot in Sawyer Cemetery Bradford, VT. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Rowan Court Health and Rehab, 378 Prospect Street, Barre, VT 05641.
