Eula Mae Wilson Crews

THETFORD-Eula Mae Wilson Crews, 88, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, while in hospice care after living with family in Thetford, Vermont. Born on May 21, 1937, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, Eula Mae lived a life rich in creativity, generosity and devotion to her family, church and community.
Eula Mae was raised in Polkville, North Carolina, the daughter of Vernon and Flossie Wilson. Eula Mae earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in 1959. Her early career as a registered dietician for the Veteran's Administration brought h to Chicago where she met Norman C. Crews, Jr. They wed in 1962 and enjoyed a loving, 62-year marriage. Eula Mae relocated multiple times, accompanying Norman on varied assignments across the United States. They settled in Northampton, Massachusetts, where they raised three children: Margaret Crews Mackenzie of Dover, New Hampshire, Millicent Lorraine Kasten of Thetford, Vermont, and Robert Norman Crews of Dripping Springs, Texas. In retirement, Eula Mae and Norman shared their time between Tarpon Springs, Florida and Shelby, North Carolina. Her love for her family was unwavering and evident in every aspect of her life. Eula Mae enjoyed frequent visits with her children over the years I various locations.
Eula Mae's skills were evident in her passions. She was especially accomplished in the fiber arts, including sewing, knitting, quilting and weaving. Eula Mae earned a Master Weaver certification from Weavers of Western Mass, Florence Massachusetts. Beyond her artistic talents, Eula Mae was known throughout her community for her warm spirit and generous nature. She had an outgoing personality that drew people close. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of homemade bread, her famous "curly rolls" and other baked goods prepared not just for family but also for church fundraisers and community events.
Eula Mae’s call to serve others played a central role in her daily life. She was an active member of the broader United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. Her dedication extended beyond church as a Girl Scout leader and a classroom volunteer.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Norman, daughter Maggie, daughter Millie and her husband Greg and their children Holly and Daniel, and son Robbie and his wife Cristin and their children Liam and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Nona Wilson Shuford and Sharon Wilson Grigg.
Eula Mae will be remembered for her friendly nature, generosity and heartfelt engagement in her church and community.
A memorial service will be held at 3PM on November 2, 2025, at Central United Methodist Church of Shelby, North Carolina.
