Francis A. Garone Jr

Francis A. "Gary" Garone, Jr, 79, of Bradford, VT, passed away Wednesday, May 22nd at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, surrounded by his family, following a long and happy life. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he moved to Hackett Hill in 1940 at the age of six. As told to his grandchildren, he walked uphill to and from school each day before graduating from Bradford Academy, after which he joined the Navy at age 18. While stationed in Orange, TX he met his future wife, Mona Lee Daughtry, whom he married in Bradford on November 25th, 1957. A loving husband, he supported his wife as she pursued her dreams and throughout her successful coaching career. He could often be seen in the stands cheering on the Oxbow Olympians. A devoted father, he taught his children the value of hard work and the importance of family, friends and community. He was an antique train collector, avid history buff and "professional" lawn manicurist. His generosity led to all family celebrations being held "on the hill." To our brother, father and grandfather, you're home now. Be good. Gary is survived by his sister Nancy McHugh of Hyde Park, NY and devoted brother, Edward Garone and wife Blanche of Derry, NH; his three children, Francis Garone III and wife Marsha of Richmond, NH, Donna Mills and husband Lance of Fairlee, VT and Greg Garone of Bradford, VT; seven grandchildren, Breanne and her husband Nate, Sarah, Devon, Jacob, Samuel, McKenzie and Miles; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Buddy. Calling hours will be held from 6-8pm on Tuesday, May 28th at Hale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, May 29th at Bradford Congregational Church.
