Franklin S. Ordway

Corinth, VT- Corinth, VT- Franklin S. Ordway, 86, of Currier Hill Road in Corinth died Wednesday February 4, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 1, 1928 in Topsham, VT the son of Clayton and Elva Ordway. He went to school in East Corinth, VT and graduated 8th grade. Franklin then attended agriculture school in Randolph, VT. After graduating in 1945 he farmed in Fairlee, VT with his father. In 1952 married Betty Huntley. They had four children, Bruce Ordway Sr. and wife Beverly, Allan Ordway, Marie Lackey and husband Phil and Michael Ordway and Wife Gina. In October of 1968 he married Susan Hastings and had three children all of Wichita, KS, Kerry Ordway, Tracy Ordway and wife Jennifer and Robin Sleeper.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Franklin worked for Bowen Hunters Bobbin Mill, then Mclam's Hardware Store driving truck. He also worked at Oxbow High School as a Custodian and then went to work at Oakes Brothers in Bradford, VT for twenty-three years until he retired. He enjoyed raising rabbits and chickens for eggs, his dog missy for many years and then his special dog Daisy that came from Kansas. Franklin enjoyed growing his vegetables and his flower gardens with his granddaughter Tina. Franklin and his wife Susan enjoyed square dancing and cribbage. After the passing of his wife Susan he continued bowling and cribbage. He also enjoyed Friday nights with his niece Amy Lockwood and husband Bob having dinner and playing cards, and also his John Deere Tractors. Franklin was predeceased by his wife Susan Hastings Ordway, Son Michael Ordway and Sister Pauline Clark and grandson Jacob Conrad. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening February 11, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford , VT. Graveside services will be held in spring in the family lot in the Fairlee Village Cemetery in Fairlee, VT. Donations in his memory may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society, 1589 Vermont 14 East Montpelier, VT 05651. The Hale Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Bradford, VT are in charge of arrangements.
