BRADFORD-- Fritz William Osgood, 86, of 166 Cross Road, Bradford, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 11at Brookside Nursing Home, Inc., White River Junction, after more than a decade long battle against Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Westfield, Vermont on May 27, 1928, the son of George Henry and Maude (Lawton) Osgood. Fritz attended schools in Corinth and Bradford, Vermont. He was married to Iolabelle Hazel (Betty) Carter on May 10, 1948. They were divorced in November of 1982. In 1983, he married Nancy Martin Hill and they were later divorced. Fritz was known for his strongwork ethic having been a truck driver, farm hand, farmer, logger, construction worker, builder and mechanic. For many years he operated the F. W. Osgood and Sons Dairy Farm in Thetford where he milked 50 to 60 Holsteins. After selling the dairy farm, Fritz owned and operated Osgood's Trucking and Excavating during which time he built several houses in the Upper Valley area. Later, he acquired Fairlee Marine which he revitalized and ran for several years as Sportland Marine. Well into his seventies, Fritz worked for Rowell Construction which was owned and operated by his good friend, Evan Rowell. He loved outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. Fritz was one of the founding members of the snowmobile club, the Thetford Snowcoasters. Fritz is survived byhis children, Fritz Daniel Osgood and his wife, Kathleen of Greenfield N.H.; Steven Carter Osgood and his wife, Julie of Sheldon, VT; Gary Lee Osgood and his companion, Donna Cook of North Thetford, VT; Connie Jean Harlow and her husband, Allen of North Thetford, VT; Cathy Jane Hook of Lawrence KS; Candie Jan Osgood and her companion, Norbert"Frenchie" LaPerleof Bradford, VT; and Stewart George Osgood and his companionAmyEricksonof Anchorage, AK. He is also survived by his brother, George Henry Osgood and his wife, Florence "Scotty" of North Stratford, NH; and a sister Geraldine Osgood of Canaan, NH. Fritz will also be fondly remembered and missed by his 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Fritz's life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain in Bradford. The Reverend Harvey P. Bartlett will officiate. Burial will be following the memorial service in the Upper Plain Cemetery, Bradford.
