Thetford, VT- Gary R. Ulman was a beloved husband, dedicated father, devoted grandfather, loyal friend, trusted neighbor, generous business owner, and extraordinary citizen. He passed away suddenly on February 23, 2016.Born in Newburgh, NY on September 7, 1940, Gary grew up in North Guilford, CT and graduated with the Class of 1958 from Guilford High School. Early in life, he developed a fondness for helping others by pitching in to solve problems wherever he found them. He was a quiet hero who lived as a man of his word with a memorable work ethic, leading by example.Gary operated a small sawmill for seven years before starting Northwood's Excavating Incorporated in Thetford Center, VT, which has grown into a very productive local business that continues under the leadership of his son, Tim.He was fond of rural traditions and vintage equipment. He and his wife Jean were participants with the Connecticut River Antique Collectors Klub and the Tunbridge World's Fair. Through the years as community volunteers, they were active with Boy Scouts, Thetford PTA, Thetford Volunteer Fire Department, and more.He is survived by his family including Jean, his loving Wife of 56 years, Three Sons: Tim and Raelyn, David and Troi Lyn, and Brent, Four Grandchildren: Wesley, Wyatt, Carley, and Katelyn, Three Siblings: Linda Gott in Maine, Pat Trafton in Montana, and Larry in California.His uncommon commitment to the greater good will be remembered by all those he touched with his life.
