Bradford, VT George H. Metcalf died unexpectedly at his home in Bradford, VT on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the age of 79.George is survived by wife Shureen Metcalf, his daughters Diane Metcalf, Donna Ferno her husband Earl of Chelsea, VT Darlene Howe of White River, VT, three step children Kip Gendron his wife Dawn of Corinth, VT, Babette Agatston and her husband David of Vienna, VA, Shelly Messenger of North Haverhill, NH, His sister Nettie George and her husband Stewart of FL, Sally Mccullough of Chelsea, VT, Raymond Metcalf and his wife Wilma of NY, Earl Metcalf of Chelsea,VT, Ted Metcalf and his wife of Chelsea, VT Grandchildren: Trevor Metcalf, Jaymie Ferno, Nikol Ferno, Michelle Metcalf, Jessica Duncklee, Andrew & Travis Gendron, Emma, Jacob & Spencer Agatston, Katelynn Pike, Blakelee & Jobin Messenger) (Great-grandchildren: Cooper, Annora, Evelynn, Cadeance, soon to be baby Duncklee, Griffin, Rylee, Maylee, Westyn, Lily, James. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by a brother Charles Metcalf of Tunbridge, VT and his sister Carrie Blanchard of FL and first wife Jean Morey MetcalfGeorge was born on August 23, 1936 in Vershire, VT to Carrie Paronto Blanchard and Earl Metcalf. He attended Vershire School and upon graduation he went into the Army where he served his country in the Korean War. Once completing his service to our Country he spent his working years at the Barre Quarries, Farnham Brother Roofing, Hayward Transportation, Carroll Concrete, P&H, Gram Boyce Trucking, Bill Ricker. He loved working on and driving big trucks, his CB handle was "grasshopper" family is unsure of the meaning of the name. His family remembers him being a jokester, a story teller and an overall humorous man. The grandchildren remember stories of the (Hootnanny), part goat part owl that lived in the woods, them asking him to take his teeth out then chasing them around with the them, he loved to tell jokes and stories of years past. If there was an antique you didn't know about he would be the one to tell you what it was and what it was used for. Sitting in his chair smoking his pipe and watching the birds was one of his favorite pastimes. He was a jack of all trades not much he couldn't do. He loved to hunt and be in the great outdoors, he enjoyed people watching, you could catch him in the parking lot of any local store just watching the people come and go.A celebration of his life will be held at the family lot in the Riverside Cemetery in Chelsea, VT on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 11 am. Visiting hours will be Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford, VT. Rev. Candace Ricker will officiate.
