FAIRLEE-Grace Shedd Bagley, aged 94, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by her side on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. She courageously lived with Parkinson's Disease and remained a source of strength and love to those around her.
Grace was born on February 23, 1930, at the Rutland, VT hospital to Clarence and Madlyn Harriott Shedd of Center Rutland, VT. Her family later moved to Wallingford, VT, where she discovered her deep passion for music and met the love of her life, Jimmy Bagley.
Growing up on a farm, Grace developed a strong work ethic and a warm heart. She graduated from Wallingford High School and went on to complete nursing school in Greenfield, MA. Grace dedicated her life to caring for others as a geriatric nurse. Known for her sweet, loving nature and remarkable compassion, she touched countless lives with her kindness and professionalism.
Grace and Jim built a beautiful life together, filled with music and love, raising five children. After Jim’s passing, Grace found solace and joy in music, continuing his legacy by playing the organ at the Fairlee Community Church. She also pursued her passions for bowling, camping, and singing with the Valley Chords, a Barbershop chorus. Grace cherished family traditions, especially attending the annual Shedd Family reunions.
A life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Grace was deeply committed to her community. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Fairlee Food Shelf and supported local Senior Centers. Grace’s gentle demeanor and radiant smile left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Grace is survived by her sister, Alice Shedd Munson; her loving children, Ellen Bagley, Carol Bagley and David Colby, David Bagley of Ascutney, VT, Laura Bagley and Dick Hodge of Fairlee, and Ken and Gretchen Bagley of Avon, CT; her cherished grandchildren, Christina Cox, David Bagley, Corey Ouellette, Kayleigh Bagley, Matthew Bagley, and Ryan Bagley; and five great-grandchildren Dominic, Vincent, and Maria Cox; and Elliot and Dylan Bagley . She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim; her brothers, Robert, Paul, and Donald; and her daughter-in-law, Carol Malhoit Bagley.
A celebration of Grace’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on January 25th, 2025, at the Fairlee Community Church (55 Town Common Rd Fairlee VT United States 05045). In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairlee Community Church (PO Box 304 Fairlee VT United States 05045) or the Orange East Senior Center (176 Waits River Rd, Bradford, VT 05033) in Grace’s memory.
Grace will be remembered for her boundless love, dedication to her family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and music will live on in the hearts of many.
