Hans Joachim Wickert

FAIRLEE - Hans Joachim Wickert, 82, of Fairlee, VT, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Hans was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany, on February 8, 1943, to Elizabeth and Jacob Wickert. Hans married Debbie (Reed) Wickert on May 21, 1975, and they had one son, Jacob Daniel Wickert in 1976.
Hans trained as a chef in Switzerland and travelled throughout Europe cooking and working on Cruise Ships prior to settling in the Upper Valley. Hans proudly served in the US Army, where he worked as a chef to Generals and Dignitaries. He cooked and ran many kitchens throughout New England, as well as owning his own restaurant, Potlatch, in Fairlee. Hans cooked for the Avery’s at Lake Morey Inn, for his last job. He gathered many entertaining stories that he shared with his unique sense of humor.
Hans is survived by his son, Jacob Daniel Wickert (Kimberly Brown), and his beloved grandson Jacob David Wickert, sister Giesla Reggaine (Lou Reggaine), niece Jojanja Meszaros and nephew Josip Lovrich, good friend Elenie Demetrus, his ex-wife Debbie Wickert, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his Father, Mother, and Brother, Mumford Wickert.
Hans’ easy going way, his laugh, and smile will be missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and kind nature. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday June 14, 2025 at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee from 2-5pm.
