Harry N. Brainerd of East Corinth, passed away on July 13, 2015 surrounded by his family, at the home of his birth on Taplin Hill. He was born to Florence and Leon Brainerd on February 2, 1926. He lived and farmed his entire life of 89 years on the family homestead.He attended the Taplin Hill elementary school and was a 1944 graduate of Bradford Academy.On August 20, 1949 he married Joan Thompson of East Corinth and together they raised a family of four daughters. They farmed for 47 years until retirement in 1988Harry served in Bradford's Company A, 2nd battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment of the State Guard during World War II. He helped in manning an air-spotting tower on the Worthley Homestead during World War II.He served in many agricultural positions. Was a member of Agri Mark, New England Milk Producers Association, Vermont Dairyman's Association, and Yankee Milk, and a Reporter for new England Crop Survey. Served as a Trustee of the Orange County Farm Bureau, Trustee of the Agway store in Bradford, and was sent as an Orange county delegate to the Nat'l. Farm Bureau Convention in San Francisco, California in 1946.In town affairs Harry served on the Planning Commission, was a Justice of the Peace and Fence Viewer, Chairman of the Solid Waste Commission, and Interim Zoning Board. He served as a Trustee of the East Corinth Valley Health Center, Trustee and past member of the East Corinth Congregational Church. He was a past Master of Minerva Lodge 86 from 1952-1953 as well as a past member of the Mt. Lebanon Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Bradford, Vt.Harry's hobbies were bee keeping and stamp collecting. Being an avid reader, his library collection spans history from the American Revolution to the present to include the history of the American railroad.Survivors include his wife Joan of East Corinth; four daughters - Janice Harwood of East Corinth, Colleen Waiss (Steven) of Monument, Colorado, Carol Thurston (Gary) of East Corinth, and Virginia DeCoster (Thomas) of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters - Ruth Clements of Newbury, Louise Thompson(Kenneth) of East Corinth; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Pearly Charles Brainerd (Muriel), Sister Eleanor Martin (Willard), son-in-law Richard Harwood, and grandson Ethan Thurston.At Harry's request there will be no funeral services. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 16 at the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford from 4 - 6 pm.
