Heman J Durkee

Thetford, VT- Heman J. Durkee, Sr., 91 of Union Village, VT passed away on January 8, 2018 at the Genesis Health Center in Lebanon, NH.He was born November 15, 1926 in Norwich, VT and lived in Union Village for his entire life. Upon his return from serving in the Navy he was married to Valroy Tuttle in 1948. They had 4 children together, Dona, Heman Jr, Bruce and Ralph. Heman, Sr. worked in the Strafford Copper Mines and as a carpenter for Glen Aldrich until he started working for The Porter's of Norwich in 1953 until his retirement in 1988 from GR Porter & Son's.Heman is survived by his two sons Heman Jr and Bruce both of West Fairlee, VT, one sister, Helen, and five brothers, Roy, Leonard, Kenny, Howard and Willy, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.He is predeceased by both parents, his wife of 41 years Valroy, his daughter Dona, his infant son Ralph, a great grandchild, two sisters Dottie and Irene, two brothers, James and Gene.Heman enjoyed watching the Red Socks and playing cribbage with friends at the American Legion in Norwich, VT. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping with friends and family. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his amazing carpentry skills. He was a loving father and grandfather.Calling hours will be held from 4:30pm to 7:30pm Saturday, January 13 at Hale's Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford , VT.
