Fairlee, VTHerbert D (Bert) Stickney of Lake Morey Road died Saturday evening (November 11, 2017) at Cedar Hill in Windsor VT following a period of declining health. He was 87.Born on February 17, 1930 in Newberry, Michigan. He was the son of Newell G. and Ethel M. (Smith) Stickney.Bert grew up in Munising, Mi on the shores of Lake Superior. After High School in 1948 he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard. During his 30 year career in the USCG he served in many stations including Key West and St Petersburg, FL; Argentia, Newfoundland, Salem, MA, Barbers Point, HI, Elizabeth City NC and finally Kodiak Ak. He retired in Kodiak in 1978 as a Master Chief (AECM)He was an avid hunter and fisherman and bought a boat and commercially fished for Halibut after his retirement. He will be remembered by many as a "jack of all trades" and could fix anything.He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Charles and Warren Lee Stickney and sisters Ardeth Hetrick, Audrey Coryell, Alice Diebert and Ida Rathbun.He leaves his wife of 63 years Carol J. Stickney of Fairlee, VT; a son Herbert Duane Stickney, II of Anchorage, AK; two daughters Debra L Stickney of Fairlee, VT and Julia Tilson of Albany, OR; nine grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.A celebration of his life will be held in the spring of 2018 at the Bradford Congregational Church in Bradford, VT.Arrangements are by Hale Funeral Homes and Cremation Care of Bradford & Thetford, VT.Online guestbook at www.halefuneralhomes.com
