PIERMONT-Irene E. Mitchell of Piermont, New Hampshire passed away on January 26, 2025, of a sudden illness. Irene was born on October 30, 1934, in West Groton, Vermont. She was the youngest of four children of Eben and Alice McDonald. Irene married Robert Mitchell on April 29th, 1950. Robert and Irene shared nearly 75 years of marriage, most of it spent together on their ‘Never Done Farm’.
Irene and Robert had 4 children, Diane (Jim) Beach, Ross (Tara) Mitchell, Teresa (Ellen) Mitchell and Roberta (David) Mitchell. Irene is leaving behind 5 grandchildren, Denise (Jim), Brynn (Tom), Kate (Joey), Marin (Jake) and Mitchell (Hailey) and 6 great-grandchildren, Blake, Tatum, Oscar, Emily, Rory and Lilah. Irene was predeceased by her daughter Diane, her sister Muriel and her two brothers, Floyd and Robert.
Irene, known as ‘Farm Grammie’, enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. All have many fond memories of sewing, cooking, working around the farm and playing card and board games with their grandmother. Irene enjoyed all kinds of crafts, especially quilting, crocheting and embroidery. She maintained a large vegetable garden and canned many jars of vegetables and jam each year. She also was proud of her raspberry and blueberry plants. Irene was known for making wonderful pies and cinnamon buns. Irene was always concerned about others and even in her final days was asking about other family members health.
The family gives their heartfelt appreciation to Ruth Fontaine for providing excellent comfort care to Irene in her final weeks.
There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
