Jake Emerson

July 7, 1957 — April 4, 2023

Jason Merton Emerson, 65, of Bradford, Vermont, passed away in his home on April 4th, 2023.

Jake, as he was known by his friends and family, was born at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital on July 7th, 1957, to Shirley Emerson and Roger Emery. Jake was the youngest of three children. He grew up in Bradford, VT, attended Bradford Elementary and Academy, and later became a stonemason and landscaper. His attention to detail, patience, and love of the outdoors were once encapsulated in his prized stone birdhouses made of slate.

Jake had many hobbies. He loved fishing and hunting, and later in life, simply loved to drive the back roads looking for wildlife, taking in the beautiful Vermont nature and good company. He adored animals and had many dogs and cats throughout his life. He loved a good sunrise and had an impressive collection of sunrise photos. He, like any good Vermonter, loved to talk about the weather and often tracked the weather wherever his children were. He enjoyed spring and summer most. He was a gardener whose real passion was flowers, always happy to pick the prettiest one he grew and offer it to you. He loved to stop and smell the flowers.

Jake loved good music and could be found in his earlier years on an electric guitar playing a Grateful Dead or Allman Brothers tune with friends. Jake was social, a devoted friend, and welcomed all without judgment. His door was always open for a good story or memory to share.

Most of all, Jake loved his children and grandchildren. In time he became known as Papa by those who loved him most. He called often and loved to host a big, loud family gathering, always being sure to measure how tall everyone was.

Jake was preceded by his mother, father, and brother, Frank Emerson. He is survived by his sister, Connie Huse, several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, as well as several dear friends.
He is survived by his five children, Angel, Amy, Anika, Ashley, and Elias Emerson. He is also survived by his darling grandchildren, Alona, Mycah, Matheu, Emma, Ella, Cole, Elliott, Finn, Fern, and two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Lillian.

A celebration of life will be held in his memory this summer. In lieu of flowers, please bring a photo and a story to share.
Hale Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with Jake's care.
