Endwell, NY- Jerry James Humphrey ,69, of Endwell, NY and a former long time resident of Bradford, VT died on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY after a brief illness. He was born on April 15, 1942 in Newark, VT the son of Edwin and Constance (O'Brien) Humphrey. He attended schools in Lyndon and was a graduate of Lyndon Institute. He lived and was raised by Edna and George Hopkins. He moved with his family in 1969 to Bradford, VT where he was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and later owned and operated Humphrey Insurance and then incorporated Century 21 Valley Associates. For the past twenty years he has worked for various companies buying right of ways and most recently was employed for Willbros Engineering in Tulsa, OK. He was married to Cheryl Ames on August 7, 2010 in Clearwater, FL. He was a former member of the Vermont Chapter of the JC's, was a Vermont State JCI Senator, Member of the Bradford Lions Club, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Burke, VT. Jerry enjoyed cooking on the grill, was an avid golfer, loved to garden, grow Christmas trees and entertaining family and friends. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Humphrey of Endwell, NY; one daughter, Pam Brill and her husband Michael of Mooresville, NC .; one son, George Humphrey and his wife Samantha of Jefferson, Maine; two step-daughters, Kim Sikora of Largo, FL and Tricia Warfel of Lancaster, PA and one step-son, Don Ames of Apalachin, NY; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; four brothers, Durwood, Everett, Russell and Carroll Humphrey; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Edwin Humphrey. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10 am at Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford, VT. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke, VT. Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Hale Funeral Home.
