John E. Roberts of Fairlee, VTa" John E. Roberts, 65, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He leaves behind his wife, Roberta, his children Stephen ,Cauley and his wife Rachel, Lila and her partner Elizabeth, and Sarah. He is also survived by his grandchildren Maya, Brittany, Ashley, Zora, and Reuben, and his sister Charlotte; he was predeceased by his grandson Isaiah and his son Toby. John was born May 11, 1949 to Julius and Estella Roberts of South Strafford, Vermont. Life took him to many places and many occupations before he met Roberta, who he married in 1986. From the day they met until the day he passed away Roberta and John shared endless love and laughter, weathering both joyous and difficult times together over the course of their 28-year marriage. For over 25 years, until his retirement in 2011, he operated his Lebanon-based business John. E. Roberts Counseling Services where he provided substance abuse and domestic violence counseling to hundreds of men, women and adolescents throughout the Upper Valley. John took enormous joy and satisfaction in helping people heal their lives and families, and is remembered with great love and respect by his former clients and colleagues. In addition to enjoying time with his family, John loved the outdoors and spent many happy days fishing, boating, and camping. His family treasures the memory of John, whose humor, strength, love and wisdom inspired all those close to him. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 PM, at the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford, Vermont. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction, Vermont.
