Joyce Gray

LYME-Joyce Gray, 92, passed away on Friday March 14, 2025 at the Alice Peck Day Hospital.
Born August 16, 1932 in Bradford Vt to Nelson and Dorothy (Sanborn) Greer. Her parents moved from Bradford Vt to Middleboro, Mass when she was three. They lived there on a large chicken and cattle farm until she graduated from the eighth grade. In 1946, they moved back to Orford NH where her dad started a small airport. Joyce graduated in 1950 from Orford High School.
On June 30, 1950, Joyce married Harley Gray Jr. from Lyme Center NH. They were married 52 years prior to his death in 2002. They had 7 children. One was a stillborn and one died 2 days after birth. They have 5 living children.
Joyce worked as a nurse’s aide until 1973 and then decided to go back to school. She attended N.H. Vocational College at the age of 42. She graduated with high honors. She continued working at that time as a Licensed Practical Nurse at DHMC in Hanover NH. Joyce retired from Dartmouth in 1993 after working 37 years there.
Joyce was a collector of Elvis Memorabilia and of Native Indian history and Dolls. She loved her dogs and watching Nascar.
She is predeceased by her husband, mother, father, 2 brothers and her daughter Shirley Bean of Lebanon NH.
She is survived by 2 sons, William Gray of Lyme NH and Bruce Gray of Lyme Center NH. Also 2 daughters, Menta Peavey of Orford NH and Donna Gray of Lyme NH. She is survived by her grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Joyce will be deeply missed, and she was a very Strong and caring person.
A graveside service will be held on Friday May 16, 2025 at 11am at the Highland Cemetery in Lyme NH.
