Judith W. Hart

May 31, 1934 — July 28, 2023

Judith (Waterman) Hart passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Judy was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 31, 1934, to Jeremiah and Mary (Fager) Waterman. A younger sister to Suzanna W. Gray, she grew up in Larchmont, NY where she learned to play the piano, sew beautiful clothing, and sail. In her senior year of high school, she went on a blind date with her future husband, Owen P. Jacobsen, II. They married on June 18, 1955. She earned a bachelor's degree at Wellsley College and after teaching for one year became a social worker in Hartford, Connecticut. She was well loved by the families she served and often brought children home on the weekends to give their care givers much needed respite. In later years, she enjoyed being a home health aide, visiting the elderly and taking care of their needs. Caring for others brought Judy so much joy.

Judy and Owen (Jake) raised their four children in West Hartford, Connecticut. They spent many years hiking, camping, and traveling the east coast in a VW camper. Judy was an avid reader who was known to read several books at a time, converse knowledgeably about world events and loved going to the movies. Her 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren were the center of her life. She adored them, called them often, and showered them with love and personal correspondence. Judy had a gentle nature, open heart and was always ready to listen. She taught all of us the most important lessons in life through her kind and loving ways. Put simply, she was the sweetest person.

Judy is survived by her sons Owen P. Jacobsen,III and his wife Nancy, Dwight C. Jacobsen, daughters Virginia MJ Moore and her husband Randy, and Suzanna J. Fletcher and her husband Bob, grandchildren Shauna, Katlyn, Arianne, Brian, Gunnar, Chris, Erica, Christie, Owen, Jackie, Bob, Max, Amanda and Dan and great grandchildren James, Hazel, Ivy, Fiona, Roxy, Mia, Caitlyn, Owen, Connor, Riley, Henry, Autumn, Travis, Grace, Blake, Chase, Colton and Austin.

Her family would like to express gratitude to all the folks who work at Margaret Pratt Community where she lived for her final 4 years. They are also grateful to the kind people who made her final days so wonderful at the Jack Byrne Center.

When Judy knew she was dying and was told that all her family would come for a visit she replied, "It will be a merry circus and we will try not to be too somber." A merry circus it was indeed and now our beloved mother, "Honey Grams" and "G.G." can rest in peace.

Arrangements are in the care of Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain in Bradford.
