Katherine P. Burgess

Bradford, VT- Katherine P. Burgess, 93, of Bradford died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at her home in her sleep. She was born October 28, 1921 in Vershire, VT the daughter of Truman and Nettie (Bixby) Parshley. She worked doing housework at various homes in the area and for a short time worked at the Bradford National bank in the 1940's. After her marriage to Almon Burgess she became a busy farm wife helping on the farm as well as raising a family. Katherine was well known for her large garden of Vegetables and flowers. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her raised donuts. Katherine worked tirelessly in the Methodist Church in Bradford helping on fund raisers along with singing alto in the choir. She loved music and was a big fan of Daniel O'Donnell and George Strait. Katherine is survived by her three children, Winston Burgess and wife Judy of Kansa City MO., Duane Burgess and wife Rose of Bradford, VT., and Diane Burgess of Bradford, VT.; grandchildren, Elaine Warren and husband Jeff of Kansas City MO and their two children, Susan Taylor and husband Elton and their three children, Step- daughter -in -law, Maxine Burgess and her two daughters, Donnalyn Lyon of Corinth, VT and Jonnalee Burgess of Bradford, VT and their family's; two sisters, Sadie Kennedy and husband Ernest of Chelsea, VT and Viola Ward of Thetford, VT., as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Almon Burgess on January 28, 1989, one step- son Stanley Burgess and two sisters, Eva Sleeper and Doris Whitcomb and one brother Harold Parshley The family would like to thank everyone with the VNA and Hospice for her wonderful care; she thought the world of Veronica and Jessica. We would also like to thank Kathy Salls and Jan Page from Kathy's Caregivers, she thought of them as family. Also a big thank you to Kim Dusenbury for all your help and being with her the night she passed. Also to Marlene Bristol from Little Rivers Healthcare for all her good care, also a thank you to Marsha Downs, Hospice Volunteer for all your visits. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 1 pm at Hale Funeral Homes, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford, VT. Visiting hours will be held Monday, February 2, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Hale Funeral Home. Burial will be in the spring in the family lot in the Upper Plain Cemetery in Bradford, VT. In lieu of flowers donations in Katherine's memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of VT and NH, 66 Benning Street # 6, West Lebanon, NH 03784 or the Bradford Fast Squad, Carson Lane, Bradford, VT 05033.
