Kern Robert McCarty, 66, died peacefully in his home in New Port Richey, Florida on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021.Survivors include his children, Kevin and his wife Kaitlin McCarty of Centerport, NY, Sean McCarty and his fiancé Jennifer Cournoyer of Montvale, NJ, and Kathleen McCarty of Charleston, SC, his sister, Sheila Woolley and his nephew Parker Woolley. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Shannon McCarty.Kern was born on December 15th, 1954, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of late Kevin Joseph McCarty, M.D. and Ruth Darling-McCarty. After graduating from Catholic Memorial School in West Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1972 he earned his B.A. in Business Administration from St. Michaels College in Colchester, Vermont in 1976. He also graduated from the PGA business schools.He travelled the country and the world during his golf career, and from 1976 to 1988 Kern was the Director of Golf at the Lake Morey Inn & Resort in Fairlee, Vermont where he became the youngest head golf professional at a certified 18-hole golf course in the country. Following his long golf career, he worked in the insurance industry independently and for several large firms, including John Hancock.Kern raised his family on Lake Morey in Fairlee, where he enjoyed swimming, boating, skating, camping and grilling on the deck. He most enjoyed teaching his children how to play golf, as well as bringing them to Boston sporting events, attending their high school games, and coaching them in little league and micro soccer. He was an avid sports fan and he loved his dogs, but his greatest joy in life were his kids.Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Hale Funeral Homes, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford, VT 05033.
