Lawrence E. "Larry" Ew

Bradford, VTLawrence E. "Larry" Drew, 85, of North Pleasant Street passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Grafton County Nursing Home following a period of declining health.Born on December 15, 1932, in Woodsville, NH, he was the son of Levi L. and Henrietta (Murphy) Drew of Bradford, VT.Larry attended Bradford Graded School and was a 1950 graduate of Bradford Academy. He went on to St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT earning a BS in 1956 and his MA in 1957. He continued studies with the National Science Foundation, the National Physics Institute, The United States Ski Association and the VT Coaches Association.He had a lengthly career as an educator, teaching math at Newbury School, Marion High School (Barre), Spaulding High School (Barre), People's Academy (Morrisville), Bradford Academy, and retired from Thetford Academy.In addition to teaching, he worked for 47 years at Camp Billings at Lake Fairlee, as the Assistant Director and Head of Maintenance. He served on Bradford Town Planning and the Water-Sewer Department. Larry was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bradford.Over the years, he coached basketball, skiing, cross country and track & field.Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by a brother Leonard Drew and sister Mary T. Drew.He leaves his wife of 60 years (married June 21, 1958): Margaret (Carleton) Drew of Bradford; a son L. Edward Drew and wife Dianne of Keene, NH; two daughters: Sarah Emberley and husband Richard of Jaffrey, NH and Megan Tanzi and husband Ron of North Scituate, RI; grandchildren: Hunter & Hannah Drew, Stephanie, Elizabeth, and Rick Emberley as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.Services will be private. Burial will be at Upper Plain Cemetery in Bradford.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Activity Fund, c/o Grafton County Nursing Home, 3855 Dartmouth College Highway, No Haverhill, NH 03774 or to Camp Billings Tree Fund, PO BOX 9620, Fairlee, VT 05045.Arrangments are entrusted to Hale Funeral Home, 187 Upper Plain, Bradford, VT.
